exist†trace – Tokoyami no Yoake

A belated Happy New Year, O Readers! I can't remember why I decided to do this song next and it's not particularly happy, but it was in my drafts so I'm going with it. This song appeared on the 2011 EP True and is the "prequel" to Omi's "Yoake no Hikari." Her blog post about …

A painting by Vincent van Gogh titled Wheat Field with Crows. It features his signature chunky brushstrokes. A field of yellow wheat fills the bottom of half of the long, rectangular canvas, while a dark blue sky with what appear to be two moons or maybe too clouds fills the upper half. There are many black M shapes in the sky representing crows.

This song first appeared on Royal Straight Magic and was also included on the Western release Neo Japanese Heroine. Given the time of year and the title, I was thinking it would be fitting for Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve. But I digress. On the occasion of that Western release, miko posted to her blog in English …

exist†trace — Unforgive You

On November 26, 2022November 26, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Life Stuff, TranslationLeave a comment

Thanksgiving heralds the (un?) official start of the Christmas season. It's a bright time that can also be depressing depending on what's going on in your life. So, I thought it fitting to reblog this song. Maybe I'm also thinking of Jason David Frank, AKA Tommy from Power Rangers. He was my first childhood TV …

My Best of Inktober 2022

On November 13, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Art, Illustration, Play Time2 Comments

When I first heard of Inktober, I thought the rules were that you had to draw straight in ink from the get-go, and that you didn't know what each day's prompt was going to be. I don't know why I thought this, but even years after finding out these weren't really the "rules," I still …

The CD single for "Shout Out" features what appears to be a face behind a mask (the kind that covers the eyes, not the mouth). It gives me Phantom of the Opera vibes.

Happy September Igu Day! I've had this song in my drafts since July. (^_^;) I hadn't actually started working on it, I just transliterated the lyrics and copied links to the relevant blog posts. And then I went off to do other things. But, well, here we are now! As is written on Archangel Diamond's …

Forced Perspective

On September 14, 2022December 29, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Art, Illustration, Play Time4 Comments

I originally posted these to Twitter, the first page going up in June and the second page in July. My inspiration was that I got a little tired of seeing everyone and their grandma's poodle redraw that one image of Young Sephiroth in the Flames this past summer when Square Enix had the special FFVII …

GACKT Collage

On July 4, 2022July 4, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Art, Play TimeLeave a comment

Today is GACKT's 49th Birthday, wooo! I've been too tired from work to be able to do anything new. But I could at least throw on his records and rock out while putting together a collage of my fanart of him! Happy 49th Birthday, GACKT! This isn't everything, though it is a lot of it. …

Back in 2017, a few months after the release of THIS IS NOW, miko and Jyou did some modeling for fashion brand Civarize. A pair of the garments they modeled featured black & white feather/wing motifs, which also feature in this song. Well, technically the feathers are black on both garments, it's the background that's …

exist†trace — BLAST

On May 29, 2022September 25, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Translation1 Comment

With the release of the compilation album NEO JAPANESE HEROINE, I wanted to do more of the tracks that are on that album specifically. Hence why today I jump to "BLAST," the last track on THIS IS NOW. Songs like this that have a lot of English interspersed can actually be harder to translate, because …

Making Mandalas in Photoshop

On April 3, 2022May 29, 2022 By scalesoflibraIn Art, Blogging, Play Time2 Comments

As I was trying to come up with a new site logo that would display well on browser tabs, I came across an article in the Adobe Support Community about making snowflakes in Photoshop. You can read said article here. I ended up making twelve different designs in one sitting following the instructions in the article, …

A Request

Thank you for visiting Warped Frost! I hope you enjoy your time here.

So far I’ve tackled some really long translation projects, and given how much work I put into them, and the fact that I am NOT making money off of this (notice the lack of ads?) I want these translations to stay exclusively on Warped Frost. I’m glad if people read my translations, of course, and don’t mind being linked to. Same goes for my artwork and photographs.

よろしくお願いしま〜す!m(_ _)m
