Happy Halloween 2020

I’ve been using Photoshop in some form, mostly Elements, for about 15 years now. The majority of that has not been for actual photo editing. Still, I feel dumb for just now learning about dodging and burning. All this time, I’ve been thinking, “I wish there were a way to lighten just one specific part … Continue reading →

exist†trace – DECIDE

Long introduction. Jump to lyrics here. I’ve really been enjoying The Only Garden and was thinking of jumping to a few tracks from there, but it seems lyrics have not been officially released to online sites, and since I bought the EP from iTunes I don’t have the liner notes. Assuming the physical copy came … Continue reading →

Or, How It Started How It’s Going, 24 Years of Drawing Sephiroth And I guess I’m counting 2020 as being over given my math up there. ^o^; I’d change it here too if I could edit my tweet about it. Things I realized putting this collage together: I apparently became a Sephiroth fan before playing … Continue reading →

exist†trace – I feel you

I interrupt the regularly scheduled programming to make it known that currently I am absolutely dying because of the words “free shipping” beneath the price tag on these headphones: Anyway, I don’t think it’s necessary to do a full translation of miko’s blog post about this song, so I’ll just summarize the two main things … Continue reading →

Sephiroth Candidate Dresses 3/3

¡Spoiler Warning for the original Final Fantasy VII and Remake! To avoid writing spoilerific things right at the top, let me start with a slight tangent. When I was in elementary school, I asked my mother to buy me a three-book set of How to Draw books from the Scholastic catalog. While I don’t remember … Continue reading →

Sephiroth’s Journey Through Fukuoka

One time for my 30th birthday my friends and I stepped out from dinner at the Fukuoka Hard Rock Café, which back then was across from Yahoo! Dome and next to Zepp Fukuoka and Hawks Town Mall, and saw a balloon artist with a sign that said he could make anything. A friend suggested I … Continue reading →

exist†trace – TRUE

Posted on July 9, 2020 by scalesoflibra • Leave a comment

This is the song that made me an exist†trace fan. Like “Unforgive You” from Twin Gate, this song’s lyrics seem so specific to me. I thought it had to be about some specific event, or perhaps some particular law or practice within society. Who are the hypocrites and the good people who stand by and do … Continue reading →

exist†trace – Daybreak ~Juu-san Gatsu no Shikisai~

Things in the US have both changed and remained the same since the last time I posted something. They’ve changed because of the protests going on. But the protests are happening largely because things have stayed the same: we continue to see unarmed Black people murdered in this country at the hands of armed law … Continue reading →

The Air Moon Ch. 6: Jōgen no Tsuki, Part 3

Posted on August 9, 2018 by scalesoflibra • 2 Comments

The discussion about regret in this part reminded me of a meme a friend shared on social media recently. To paraphrase, it asked if you would rather go back to being 10 years old but with all the knowledge you currently possess, or wake up at age 45 but with a billion dollars in the … Continue reading →

exist†trace — Unforgive You

Posted on June 10, 2018 by scalesoflibra • 1 Comment

The song that most caught my attention on Twin Gate when I first listened to it was “Unforgive You.” It’s such a haunting track, and the specificity of the person described made me wonder who it was written for. Actually, I think that’s how I came to find miko’s blog, as she explains there exactly … Continue reading →

A Request

Thank you for visiting Warped Frost! I hope you enjoy your time here.

So far I've tackled some really long translation projects, and given how much work I put into them, and the fact that I am NOT making money off of this (notice the lack of ads?) I want these translations to stay exclusively on Warped Frost. I'm glad if people read my translations, of course, and don't mind being linked to. Same goes for my artwork and photographs.

よろしくお願いしま〜す!m(_ _)m

Is it me you’re looking for?

Scenes from around Warped Frost

Tsuki no Matsu, the "Moon Pine" in Ueno Park. I don't know if this is the same tree ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige depicted in his "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" prints, or if it's that the nearby temple has been grooming different pines into this shape for hundreds of years. (May 2016)

Umegaemochi, a kind of mochi with sweet bean paste inside and a plum mark grilled onto the outside. A specialty of Dazaifu, there are several shops on the sandō that sell it. Yum! (April 2016)

From an ice cream stand on the 参道 (sandō, the road leading up to a temple or shrine) to Dazaifu Tenmangū. They sell normal flavors & unusual flavors. Black sesame isn't that unusual, but I recommend their tofu flavored ice cream and corn flavored ice cream too. (April 2016)
