exist†trace Translations

I was lucky to get my hands on a first pressing copy of VIRGIN while I was living in Japan.

I became a fan of the all-women visual kei band exist†trace in mid-2012 thanks to a post on the blog Tofugu introducing female metal bands. As far as I’ve seen, there isn’t one single website with good English translations of all of exist†trace’s songs; there are smatterings here and there of random tracks. It is my hope that one day Warped Frost will fill that void, at least for their more recent songs, namely the ones from the EPs/albums listed below. So, I will continue posting lyric translations as blog posts, and compile links on this page as I go. Also, miko often writes entries on her blog about specific songs; I will sometimes post translations of such blog posts along with the lyrics.

As with all translations on Warped Frost, please do NOT copy-paste my work into your website or any other website! If you want to link to a translation that’s fine, but I do not appreciate others submitting my work to other websites as if it were theirs to submit.

Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.

Notes / Partial Update History

April 16, 2022: I probably should’ve started doing this way back when I started compiling links on this page back in 2014 or 2015, huh? Oh well.

Anyway, I changed the link for Archangel Diamond from the defunct fan club website (https: // archangel-diamond.com/) to their Twitter page. Likewise, I removed the link to the Tofugu post that introduced me to the band as it now yields a 404 message, but for the record, the URL was https: // w w w .tofugu.com/2012/05/12/japanese-metal-bands-are-for-girls/.

Hi there, I’ve been following your blog for a few years now and wanted to say thank you so very very much for all your high quality exist trace translations!!! This is such a valuable resource for all us non-Japanese-speaking igu fans and I’m always excited when I get an email notification of a new translation! I love reading the snippets from miko’s (and Omi’s) blogs too, love her insight into the writing process and meanings of the songs. And I love reading all your translation notes, which something that a lot of other translations out there lack, since of course the original Japanese can’t map 1-to-1 to English and it’s always cool to read how you chose to translate certain phrases, or stuff lost in translation, or interesting grammatical quirks, etc. Keep up the good work ♥♥♥

    1. Hi Pero, thanks for reading & commenting! I’m especially glad you like the notes; sometimes I wonder if I’m talking too much (LOL). On the other hand, I think a blog is the perfect medium for something like fan translations with notes, because the notes don’t have to interrupt the flow of the translation as it’s being read, and the extra information is there for those who want it.

I can’t believe I’ve only posted two translations—no, two posts period—this year. Hopefully I’ll be able to do at least one this month. Thanks for sticking around on this very irregularly updated site! 😀

Let's talk!
