exist†trace – Anata

I don’t know why I was thinking that The Only Garden was coming out on the 20th, it comes out today, the 29th. Of course. Anyway, I’m almost through all the songs on VIRGIN! Woo! One of the harder things for monolingual, native English speakers to grasp about the Japanese language is that subjects are … Continue reading →

Happy July Igu Day! It’s July 20th in Japan, so the new mini album The Only Garden should be out now. I’m seeing a single called “Existence” available on the US iTunes store that has the same cover art. Wonder if we’ll get the mini album tomorrow. Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Unlike … Continue reading →

exist†trace – TRUE

This is the song that made me an exist†trace fan. Like “Unforgive You” from Twin Gate, this song’s lyrics seem so specific to me. I thought it had to be about some specific event, or perhaps some particular law or practice within society. Who are the hypocrites and the good people who stand by and do … Continue reading →

This song reminds me of the character image songs from Gundam Wing. Though given miko’s love for Sailor Moon, maybe that’s the “senshi” (soldier) she was thinking of. I’ve opted not to do a full translation of miko’s blog post for this song, because a lot of it is about a show they were preparing … Continue reading →

There aren’t any English or Spanish translations of this song, not that I could find posted publicly anyway, and I wonder if that’s because the song isn’t popular (I don’t know whether it is or isn’t) or because people are thinking about it too hard and think it can’t be what it sounds like. It’s … Continue reading →

exist†trace – GINGER

So much for a schedule… (^o^;) I started doing this back in early June to have it ready for the 9th, but got stuck on several things. The first was that I didn’t recognize a reference to a proverb, so while I thought I understood what was going on, I couldn’t justify my interpretation. The … Continue reading →

exist†trace – Daybreak ~Juu-san Gatsu no Shikisai~

Things in the US have both changed and remained the same since the last time I posted something. They’ve changed because of the protests going on. But the protests are happening largely because things have stayed the same: we continue to see unarmed Black people murdered in this country at the hands of armed law … Continue reading →

Happy May Igu Day! Now that The Air Moon is done, I’d like to get through all the songs on VIRGIN. I’m gonna try to post on the 1st, 9th, and 19th to make it a routine. Though I’ve done a couple of songs from this album already, I figured I would just go in … Continue reading →

This is a bit of a deviation from my usual fan translation fare, but I see it when I’m scrolling down my iTunes Music Library on my way to exist†trace, so I figured I could translate this too. As passionate as this song is, my main memory of it is not being able to get … Continue reading →

The Air Moon, Afterword

Posted on March 31, 2020 by scalesoflibra • 5 Comments

This is it. The last five pages of the MOON PROJECT Document Book The Air Moon. It’s taken me just shy of six years’ worth of spare time to complete this by myself. Not that I spent every moment of my spare time doing this, but still. I never would have guessed the circumstances under … Continue reading →

A Request

Thank you for visiting Warped Frost! I hope you enjoy your time here.

So far I've tackled some really long translation projects, and given how much work I put into them, and the fact that I am NOT making money off of this (notice the lack of ads?) I want these translations to stay exclusively on Warped Frost. I'm glad if people read my translations, of course, and don't mind being linked to. Same goes for my artwork and photographs.

よろしくお願いしま〜す!m(_ _)m

Is it me you’re looking for?

Tsuki no Matsu, the "Moon Pine" in Ueno Park. I don't know if this is the same tree ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige depicted in his "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" prints, or if it's that the nearby temple has been grooming different pines into this shape for hundreds of years. (May 2016)

From an ice cream stand on the 参道 (sandō, the road leading up to a temple or shrine) to Dazaifu Tenmangū. They sell normal flavors & unusual flavors. Black sesame isn't that unusual, but I recommend their tofu flavored ice cream and corn flavored ice cream too. (April 2016)
