2016 WSU Art Education & Therapy Show

Last Thursday was the opening of this year’s Art Education & Art Therapy Student Show at Wayne State University. I’ve got five pieces in it (three of them for sale *wink & tooth sparkle*), including the completed bookshelf I had introduced in this post.

The Alchemist, complete with Chimera!
The Alchemist, complete with Chimera! The little “window” is the hole for the power outlet in my room, ahaha. And since I built this for a specific space, this piece is not for sale.

I want to do a post showing the rest of the process of making this, but I’m a bit short on time until July and since it takes me so long to do posts with photos, that will have to wait.

EDIT (June 29): Unfortunately, the show had to come down early. There will be nothing showing in the Art Department Gallery in July.

Anyway, the exhibit runs through Thursday, July 7th, at the Art Department Gallery inside the Art Building/Community Arts (5400 Gullen Mall, Detroit, MI 48202). The online campus map is a little confusing, so let me just say that going from the Detroit Institute of Arts, when you’re at Cass & Kirby you’ll see two buildings across Cass; go to the one with the big circular loopy sculpture on the lawn. The gallery is on summer hours which are a bit limited, but they are Mondays & Wednesdays 12PM – 5PM, and Tuesdays & Thursdays 12PM – 4:30PM. (But it will be closed on July 4th.) You could make a day of visiting galleries in the area!

The pendant to The Alchemist, The Atavus, sits on the right; the work to the left belongs to a classmate (and is worth seeing too!) In the background are the beautiful Yamazaki reflecting pools.

Oh yeah, the Art Department Gallery is actually being renovated right now. When you first approach it, you see the part currently being worked on, but don’t leave! Proceed to the deeper end of the hallway and you’ll see the door leading to the half that has already been renovated that this show is in.

Let's talk!
