数年前からもう更新しないブログに載せた「バチャタエン福岡」の和訳が突然に日本からよく訪れられるようになっていることに気づいて、何かヒット映画の主題歌として使われているとかと思って検索したら「Youは何しに日本へ」というテレビ番組を見つけました。この番組にゲラの話があったのでしょうか。

（番組のサイトにSFのGuileが載せているんじゃないですか？！）

まあ、理由が詳しくわからなくても、今のこのブログに載せてある和訳がいいですから、こっちの方を読んでいただければ嬉しいです。英語のメッセージの下に原物のページを再投稿します。

ちなみに、私は英語を教えに福岡へ行きました。四年間の日本生活の後帰国して、今年の夏でもう六年となります。信じられません！そして、その間に日本語がおかしくなってしまって、変なことを書いてすみません。（汗）

I noticed that my translation of “Bachata en Fukuoka” on my old blog was getting a lot of hits from Japan and wondered why. Apparently it has something to do with the show “You wa Nani shi ni Nihon he” (Why did you come to Japan?). Maybe they talked about Juan Luis Guerra, or some random person from Latin America answered that they went to Fukuoka because of the song? Whatever the case may be, as I had posted an updated translation on this blog, I figured I’d take the chance to post the translation as a blog post now (I’d originally published it as a page). 「バチャタ・エン・福岡」は、ドミニカ共和国の歌手フアン・ルイス・ゲラの大ヒット曲です。ゲラは2009年の夏、イスラ・デ・サルサという年中行事で出演するため福岡に行って、福岡が大変気に入ったらしいです。2010年に上述の曲をリリースしました。

下記の和訳は完璧ではないかもしれませんが、グーグルなどの自動翻訳より正確だと思います。和訳も英訳もスペイン語の歌詞に基づいています。

“Bachata en Fukuoka” is a hit song by Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra. He went to Fukuoka in the summer of 2009 to perform at the annual festival Isla de Salsa. He fell in love with the city and released the above-mentioned song in 2010.

My translation probably isn’t perfect, but I’m sure it’s more accurate than what you’d get with Google Translate or other online translators. Both the Japanese and English translations are based on the original Spanish lyrics.

訳注
*数年前YouTubeでゲラとのインタビューの映像がありましたが、そのインタビューで、日本にいた間バンドと一緒に行動した通訳者は「アキ」という日本人の女性だったとゲラが語りました。で、この歌詞は「アキが『ありがとうございます』を教えてくれたんだ」という意味を持つ可能性もあります。「アキ」と「ここ」を意味するスペイン語の言葉「aquí」はほとんど同じ発音をするのです。

**直訳したら、この歌詞は「僕の弾いてる音符が嬉しくなってしまう」という意味ですが、スペイン語の「allegrar」と音楽用語の「allegro」との洒落じゃないかなと思って「嬉しいアレグロで弾いてしまう」にしました。「Allegrar」はスペイン語で「嬉しくなる」という意味で、「allegro」は音楽用語として「軽快に速く」という意味で使われていますが、本来は「にぎやか」という意味なのです。

***スペイン語で「ch」と「sh」の区別がないので、ゲラは「こんにちは」を「こんにシは」と発音してしまいました。

Notes
*There had been a video on YouTube of an interview with Juan Luis Guerra in which he said that the translator who had been with him and his band while they were in Japan was a woman named Aki. So, this line might actually be “Aki me enseño ‘arigatou gozaimasu'” meaning “Aki taught me ‘arigatou gozaimasu.'” The name “Aki” and the Spanish word “aquí” (meaning “here”) sound nearly the same.

**What he literally says is “my notes become happy.” I think Guerra might actually be punning on the musical term “allegro” (Italian for “lively” but used in music to mean “a lively, brisk pace” or a piece played at such a pace) and “allegrar” (Spanish for “become happy” or “cheer up”).

***“Ch” and “sh” make the same sound in Spanish, so Guerra mispronounces “konnichiwa” as “konishiwa.”
